Sustainable & Ethical Sourcing

We practice responsible sourcing throughout our supply chain, ensuring our customers get great quality, high welfare and sustainable food on their plates.

All TRG managed suppliers must meet the requirements of our Responsible Sourcing Policies, and we conduct routine supplier audits to ensure suppliers are operating to our high standards.

Fish

Fish

We are committed to sourcing sustainable fish, which is achieved through purchasing Marine Stewardship Council (MSC)-certified fish rated 3 or below, and for farmed fish and seafood, only sourcing from GLOBALG.A.P or BAP 2-star or higher certified farms. We also review the Good Fish Guide every six months when it is published and modify our menus to remove any fish classified as “avoid”.

Eggs

Eggs

All UK shell eggs are sourced from free-range hens, where the birds have an environment and space in excess of the legal requirement. Wagamama has an additional global commitment to achieve 100% sourcing of all eggs and egg derivatives (to include shell eggs, liquid eggs, and egg products) from cage-free hens, and we have been working hard to meet this target, providing the birds with an environment beneficial to their welfare.

A target date of 2025 was set to complete this work across all owned and franchised Wagamama businesses. Currently, our UK Wagamama sites source eggs (shell, liquid and egg products) which are 100% free range. Across our franchised estate, we are already 100% cage free in most of our European markets. In other markets, we are 100% cage free on shell and are on target to achieve this across liquid and by-products by the end of 2025. There are a small number of other international markets where achieving 100% cage-free eggs requires additional work due to more challenged local supply chains, and realistic targets will be updated as soon as possible.

Chicken

Chicken

In 2020 the Group signed the European Better Chicken Commitment, as supported by Compassion in World Farming, with the goal of sourcing chicken to this standard from 2026. This allows us to improve the welfare of millions of chickens used in our supply chain, and builds on our cage-free egg commitment, antibiotic usage reduction and responsible fish sourcing programmes, further demonstrating our responsible sourcing approach and ongoing commitment to animal welfare.

The Sustainable Restaurant Association

In order to benchmark our sustainability performance in our sector, we are members of The Sustainable Restaurant Association. In 2021 we were awarded 3 stars (the highest rating) in their Food Made Good assessments across all brands.
